Historical Background: The Zaria watch movement traces its origins back to the industrial era of the Soviet Union before World War II. Initially, the Penza Watch Factory was operated by the French watch manufacturer, LIP, which faced financial difficulties in 1936. By 1940, the factory was reorganized under the Soviet regime as the Penza Third State Watch Factory, focusing on the production of small-sized ladies’ movements and watchmaking tools. During World War II, the factory’s role pivoted dramatically to support military efforts, manufacturing mortars, mine fuses, and other vital military equipment. It was not until after World War II, in 1945, that the factory resumed the production of civilian goods, particularly timepieces. By 1949, it exclusively produced ladies’ calibers under the watch brand Zaria. Today, Zaria represents a rich heritage encompassing several brands like Junost, Kometa, Lux, and Zvezda, exporting to over 52 countries worldwide and producing millions of watches.
