Spray wash
Our wool spray can freshen up your sweater without having to wash it. It removes odour and keeps the moths away. Simplifying cashmere care and putting you in control. This is available here at FredFloris.
Choose a suitable storage location
The place you choose must be clean, free of humidity and protected from sunlight or other sources of heat, closed shelves and drawers make the storage area perfect.
Fold, don’t hang
Hanging your cashmere clothing will cause it to stretch and curve, especially in the shoulder area. Instead, fold them carefully and place them in a storage location.
Moth prevention
To keep your cashmere garments fresh and avoid moths, we suggest storing them with cedar wood, a natural alternative to other moth remedies. Make sure to sand the wood at least once a year. We have our own Cedar hearts available here.
Long-term storage
Clean your clothes and put them in breathable plastic bags, with a zip, with some cedar wood to keep them fresh. Then, place them in your chosen corner for storage. Remember that temperature changes over time can cause condensation, therefore we recommend not to keep clothing in their wraps for more than three months.
Clothes brush
We recommend using our soft horse hair brush from time to time to clean your garments.
Vertical ironing
If you have a vertical ironer, hang the garment and steam from a short distance, without touching the fibres. We recommend allowing the garment to cool down before putting it on or storing it.
Iron
Prepare your garment by reversing it, placing it evenly on the ironing table and covering it with a cloth. Set your iron to the lowest temperature and gently press it on the head, using linear movements. Always keep the iron moving, making sure it never touches the fibres directly.
Handwashing Cashmere
Handwash the garment. To wash your cashmere garment by hand, you will need a basin full of mild detergent. Before washing, it may be necessary to remove the pilling, those small balls that are formed by rubbing the garment.
In order to avoid colour loss or shrinkage, use only cold or lukewarm water to wash your cashmere garment.
Add a small amount of mild detergent and shake the water with your hand to form the foam. Choose a slightly alkaline detergent, such as baby shampoo or bile soap.
Immerse the garment in the basin and massage it gently. If there are stains, caress the area with bile soap. Avoid rubbing the garment on itself, as this may ruin the delicate fibre.
Rinse by immersing in clean cold water and press gently, avoiding twisting the garment. Change the water and repeat the step, if necessary, until all the detergent has been removed.
Excess water can be removed by rolling the garment in a towel on a flat surface and pressing gently. This will allow your garment to dry faster.
Lay your garment on a horizontal surface to dry, avoiding direct sunlight or other sources of heat. Turn the garment at least once to the other side, so that it can dry on both.
Remove the pilling
Even the finest cashmere garment can produce pilling sooner or later. This does not indicate the quality of cashmere, but is simply part of its nature: in fact, pilling occurs when the shorter fibres loosen and rub against each other. In the meantime, it is we can remove it from the garment to keep it in perfect condition.
Do not remove the pilling while wearing the garment
Spread your garment out on a flat surface to remove the pilling. This will prevent damage and allow you to better identify the pilling you want to remove.
Some areas of your garment are more prone to pilling
When locating areas that require pilling removal, pay particular attention to areas that are prone to chafing, such as elbows, underarms and shoulders.
Remove the dots with a cashmere comb
Use a cashmere comb to gently brush the surface of your garment where you see pilling formed. An electric fabric razor can also be used, but it is very important to be careful in order to avoid damage.
